If your company is involved in the WordPress community in some way, chances are that you have considered sponsoring or already have sponsored a WordCamp. It’s a great way to get your name in front of your target audience and to keep the community as a whole running the way it does.
DonateWC provides travel sponsorships to people who lack the financial means to attend a WordCamp. We do this because WordCamps have become unintentionally exclusive of the poor; not everyone has a WordCamp close by or enough money to pay for transport, accommodation, and other travel-related expenses. Even if tickets to WordCamps are relatively cheap, surrounding costs can be a real blocker. Here’s more about why we do what we do.
With your donation, we can continue offering travel grants to deserving community members. If you ever wanted a chance to change a person’s life forever, this is the way to do it!
Benefits of becoming a corporate sponsor

- Your community standing will improve
- You are helping to change lives. A travel grant allows recipients to have an experience of a lifetime!

Frequently asked questions
Can I send swag to recipients?
Yes! When you have made a donation to the foundation, you are more than welcome to send us swag. We’ll distribute the swag under new recipients.
Will sponsorship recipients wear a t-shirt with my company’s logo to WordCamp?
No. Recipients are not required to represent any brand in return for their sponsorship. The sponsorship is purely tied to their commitment to and involvement in the WordPress community.
Can I determine who the next recipient of a sponsorship will be?
No. We have an application review team that handles this. The team is diverse and not tied to any one particular company. This ensures that we award sponsorships with the least amount of cultural and social bias.
Can I choose to sponsor an individual?
All collected donations will go into a single fund. We chose not to go for individual sponsorships.
How is my donation used?
The foundation runs on volunteers. There are no full-time staff members and has no people on salary. A small portion of our funds is used to keep the foundation running smoothly. Among these costs are:
- Bank fees
- Marketing – think flyers and Facebook ads
- Small administrative costs
Are my donations tax-deductible?
The foundation is located in The Netherlands and has not (yet) received ANBI status. That means donations are not yet tax deductible for European based companies. We are hoping to receive ANBI status in 2018.
For companies located outside of the European Union, donations are not tax deductible.
